In the course of a Minneapolis law firm practice from 1983 to 2014, Kirk represented the interests of individuals and large and small businesses in a wide variety of cases, ranging from the traditional to the extremely complex, including class action and multi-district litigation. His clients included construction contractors, design professionals, product manufacturers, insurance companies, and insureds.

Kirk has tried and arbitrated numerous cases in state and local courts in both Minnesota and across the country and argued appeals before the Minnesota Court of Appeals, the Minnesota Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth and Eighth Circuits, and the United States Supreme Court.

He is on the American Arbitration Association roster of neutrals, is a Qualified Neutral on the Minnesota Supreme Court Roster, and has an AV Preeminent peer-review rating by the Martindale-Hubbell National Law Directory for ethical standards and legal ability, that organization’s highest rating. In 2003, Kirk was named by Minnesota Lawyer a lawyer of the year for two cases he argued in the United States Supreme Court.

Active in his community, Kirk is a volunteer for several Twin Cities nonprofit mediation service providers. He has been a member of the Minnesota State Advisory Committee to the United States Civil Rights Commission since 2009.
